Rex Hemme currently serves as an adjunct professor of mathematics at San Jacinto Community College, Houston, Texas since 201[EL1] , where he teaches two or three college-level algebra and statistics classes. He has many years of nonprofit experience, serving on boards of directors of several nonprofits. Since the 1980s, he served on boards of synagogues in Dallas; Fort Wayne, Indiana; and Houston, generally as treasurer or financial vice president; from 1995 to 1997, he was president of Congregation Shaar Hashalom in Houston, Texas. In the late 1980s and early 1990s, Rex served on the board of Akiba Academy, a Jewish day school in Dallas, Texas. Since about 2002, with a 1.5-year hiatus due to term limitations, he has served on the board of the Bay Area Council on Drugs and Alcohol, commonly as treasurer or on the Finance Committee, and from approximately 2008 to 2011, as president. From 2010 to 2019, Rex served on the board of D’Feet Breast Cancer, whose purpose is providing diagnostic services to low-income residents of Galveston County, Texas.

His professional experience from 1972 to retirement included: mathematical statistician, U.S. Department of Agriculture, Austin; consulting actuary, Milliman & Robertson, Houston and Dallas; vice president and actuary, American General Group Insurance Company, Dallas; second vice president and actuary, Lincoln National Insurance Company, Dallas and Fort Wayne, Indiana; and vice president and actuary, then senior vice president and actuary, American National Insurance Company, Galveston.

Rex received a B.S. in mathematics from Purdue University in 1970 and an M.S. in mathematics and statistics from Ohio State University in 1972. He was a fellow of the Society of Actuaries from 1979 to 2013.

Steve Paterson is the current CEO and managing partner of Paterson Consulting Partners LLC, which specializes in small to medium-size business consulting in digital marketing, media and market analysis, and strategic planning. Steve came to the world of nonprofit management after a successful 35-year career in newspaper and media management, during which he has held the titles of publisher, group publisher, division president, and corporate director. He brings to his current position a diverse group of skills, which include publishing, finance, marketing, operations, manufacturing, distribution, digital communication development, merger and acquisition, and new business development as part of his acquired education in senior management and C-suite positions in his career.

Steve is a graduate of Florida Atlantic University with a bachelor’s degree in political science and a minor in marketing. He also holds several advanced executive program certifications from Northwestern University, the Kellogg School of Graduate Studies, Stanford University, and the American Press Institute. He is the recipient of the prestigious James M. Cox Award for Sales Excellence from Cox Media and was recognized by the Newspaper Association of America and presented the NCN Award for outstanding new business development.

He is married to his wife of 40 years, Debra, and has two daughters. His daughter Kelly is an elementary school mathematics teacher and recently married her husband, Valentin, who is a nutritional specialist, they reside in San Antonio, Texas. His daughter Colby is married, and she and her husband, Jordan, reside in Denver, Colorado, with his granddaughter, Amelia. Colby works in real estate management and Jordan is employed as a professional engineer.
